In the Beginning......

Hello!

Imagine the future for a young girl from a large farming family; poor, isolated, uneducated and living in the rural midwest in the 1950's. Most people might guess, her future was locked up by her circumstances. Maybe she'd be lucky and find a nice man with alittle money. Maybe she'd finish high school before squeezing out a child or 6. Maybe she'd get a job at the local K-Mart to help support her family. Maybe she's become a nun and make her Catholic family proud. Maybe she'd go crazy from the despair of poverty, isolation and neglect.

Maybe not! That was me ahem-number of years ago, pre-Women's Movement. No one could have predicted then that today I'd have a Ph.D., own 2 successful businessses and am starting a third. What accounts for the fact that I did not follow in the footsteps of most of my other family members who graduated high school and went to work in factories or in minimum wage jobs and sold or used drugs on the side? What turned me into a "serial entrepreneur" instead of a PMS driven serial killer? I'm still seeking answers to these questions.
